A new era for Copernicus Sentinel data: the future is cloud-based
For over a decade, Copernicus Sentinel Data Processors have generated vast amounts of reliable, accurate Earth observation data, facilitating groundbreaking scientific research and innovative commercial applications. However, as technology advances, so must the way we process and access this data.
That’s why the European Space Agency (ESA) is introducing the Earth Observation Processing Framework (EOPF) Zarr format, a cloud-ready solution designed for seamless interoperability.
Facilitating this transition is the EOPF Sentinel Zarr Samples Service, funded by ESA and managed by a consortium of Earth observation, satellite data and IT experts.
Introducing EOPF Sentinel Zarr Samples
The EOPF Sentinel Zarr Samples Service aims to demonstrate:
- Harmonised data formats across Sentinel missions
- Efficient access to any Sentinel data subset and to Sentinel data series
- Optimised combination of data from different Sentinel missions
- Scalable processing on cloud platforms
- Seamless integration with modern data science programming frameworks
- Streamlined analysis of Sentinel data, including AI applications
With user-friendly tools and notebooks, the EOPF Sentinel Zarr Samples simplify the processing of Copernicus Sentinel data. Our resource page will be publicly accessible by the end of March.
